How to travel Puerto Galera | Mindoro Oriental, Philippines

Only a short hop away from Manila, and yet a world apart. With lots of exciting reefs, and several beaches and resorts.

Puerto Galera is a favorite amongst locals, escaping busy life in Manila. But also for foreigners it’s a good spot to hang around for a few days.

Where to go in Puerto Galera

Puerto Galera is not really a town, but more of a large area covering several beaches. According to your needs, it’s good to know what you want, and find a spot accordingly.

We stayed in Talipanan beach, along with Aninuan Beach the most peaceful and quiet beach in the surroundings. No loud music at night (at least in 2015), only the sound of the waves and the lights from the other beaches far away.

White beach is more of a party place and in Sabang area you’ll find most of the resorts.

What to do in Puerto Galera

With a whole lot of reefs, snorkling and scuba diving are popular activities. The shore is scattered with diving schools.

There are also some nice waterfalls in the surroundings. Some accessible by motorbike along the road, like Tamaraw falls. And some more in the jungle, like Talipanan falls. Bring your swimming pants!

And of course there is a whole lot of entertainment here. Bars and clubs, massages, you name it. I didn’t explore that much since my ears don’t allow me to get into loud music, but from the glimpses I saw of it, it looked fun 🙂

Where to sleep in Puerto Galera

We stayed in Bamboo Beach House, in the newer rooms close to the beach. A nice room, friendly staff and some good food they serve in the restaurant. We got a free update, which is always nice!

Where to eat in Puerto Galera

There are SO many restaurants around here! It’s definitely hard to pick just a few you should go. If I have to name something: we had some great pizza’s in Luca’s – just around the corner at Bamboo Beach resort. But to be fair: we were also a bit lazy. Going to a whole other beach for food and then back at night, just didn’t came to mind honestly 😉

All in all Puerto Galera was a nice end of our trip to the Philippines!
At least it made me hungry for more, returning again in 2016 and 2017 😉
